TOP 10 ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF PRE BONDED HAIR EXTENSIONS

PRE BONDED HAIR EXTENSIONS

If you are new to the world of hair extensions, it can get overwhelming to decide which type of hair extensions to go for as there are so many different styles of hair extensions and application methods available in the market.

There are clip-in hair extensions, sew-ins, tape-ins, glued-ins, weaves, wigs, pre-bonded hair extensions, and wigs.

In the following post, I will talk more about Pre bonded hair extensions; one of the oldest but still popular methods of hair extensions today.

As with all types of hair extensions, this method comes with its set of advantages and disadvantages, and listed below are the top 10 of both according to hair experts.

So what is Pre-Bonded hair extension?

Pre-bonded hair extensions also known as fusion bonded extensions are a type of hair extension that is applied to the hair by heating up the keratin tip that is found at the end of the extension, to add it to your natural hair.

Unlike clip-in hair extensions and wigs which can be taken off each day as well as reapplied, pre-bonded hair extensions are semi-permanent meaning they can be worn for a longer period without taking it off.

Depending on the shape of the keratin at the end of the hair strand, it is classified into four categories- I tip U tip, Flat tip and V tip hair extensions and all follow the same method of fitting.

Advantages of Pre-bonded hair extension:

  1. Like any other hair extension, this one also adds length and volume to your hair but with a very natural appearance.
  2. If cared for properly, they can easily last up to 6 months without any hassle, making it the most durable hair extensions. Clip-ins, sew-ins, and tape-ins if worn regularly can last for about two months at the most.
  3. Since they are made up of 100% actual human hair and fused with intricacy, they are almost impossible to tell apart from your own hair. You need not worry about awkwardness when you meet people.
  4. Since the hair extensions are individual strands, the hair feels and moves more naturally.
  5. The hair extensions can be customized to match or enhance your hair color. Since they come in individual strands, it is easier to add highlights or lowlights too.
  6. Unlike other fitting techniques, this method of hair extension does not require frequent visits to the salon for maintenance. This means you spend less on taking care of it. However, extra hair strands can be added if you want to thicken the overall look.
  7. This type of hair extension is usually available at a cheaper price per strand than other types of hair extension.
  8. They tend to be more secure and are less likely to slip compared to other types of hair extensions like clip in human hair extensions. This is the ideal hair extension if you have a busy active life.
  9. Most suitable for coarse, thick hair and can also be used on fine or compromised hair that might not be strong enough to bear the weight of fitting accessories like micro rings, wefts, etc.
  10. The keratin used at the extension tips is perfectly safe for your scalp and hair.

Disadvantages of Pre-bonded hair extensions:

  1. This application of hair extensions requires heat to fuse the keratin bond to the hair which can lead to damage of the natural hair.
  2. Unlike clip in hair extensions or weaves, this hair extension requires the use of a special heating tool to attach the hair strands.
  3. The removal of this hair extension requires professional help and is time-intensive unlike other methods like clip in human hair extensions.
  4. It is also the most intensive and time-consuming hair extension application.
  5. Due to the lengthy application and removal time, it is an expensive method of hair extensions.
  6. The hair extensions cannot be reused. New hair needs to be purchased for every application. Therefore, care must be taken while brushing as hair strands cannot be reinserted.
  7. The attachment points in the hair can be uncomfortable sometimes.
  8. If not maintained properly or brushed frequently and gently, the hair will clump or feel heavy.
  9. Oil and heat application on the hair can damage the bonds and cause the hair extensions to fall out. Therefore, one has to be extra careful while using oil based products and heating tools on pre bonded hair extensions.
  10.  Users may experience discomfort or itchy scalp within the first couple of weeks after application.

I hope this article provided you with enough information on Pre-bonded hair extensions so that the next time you choose this type of extensions, you know what to expect.
