The Debt that Every Boy and Girl Born in Madhya Pradesh has is ₹53,323

Every boy and girl born in Madhya Pradesh now carries a debt burden of approximately ₹80,300 from birth. This debt has not been taken by any family; rather, it is the result of the huge loans borrowed by the state government from the market and financial institutions, which are ultimately repaid through taxes collected from the public.

According to data from the Finance Department, as of March 31, 2025, the Madhya Pradesh government had debt exceeding ₹4.88 lakh crore. The debt has now reached around ₹4.77 lakh crore. In just two months, the government borrowed an additional ₹450 crore.

What is particularly alarming is that last year the government spent nearly ₹29,000 crore solely on interest payments. The substantial expenditure on welfare schemes such as the Ladli Behna Yojana, Samman Nidhi, and other public welfare programs is also cited as a reason for the increasing debt burden.

This raises an important question: Is Madhya Pradesh gradually getting trapped in a debt cycle? Every child born in Madhya Pradesh is effectively being born with a significant share of this debt burden.
